Yes, the US dollar (USD) is widely accepted in tourist areas, hotels, and large cities. However, we recommend that you exchange some of your currency into colones for your daily expenses (buses, taxis, markets) and keep a few US dollars for hotels, excursions, and payments in tourist areas.

It is possible to exchange some of your money before departure, then withdraw more locally if necessary. However, always check in advance the exchange rates applied locally.
